I'm rooting for Google

Google is smart. I knew that, but this story confirmed.

If you don't know Google has placed a bid for the 700MHz spectrum that the FCC is selling. Read this. I was happy about Google doing this because they will keep it "open source" which means free (with ads). That's a better deal than Verizon buying it continuing their practice of taking more money from their customers.

If feel like it's ebay. There's a price out there (4.6 billion) and Google is prepared to pay that. Meet Verizon who is desperate to own it. Well, Google have will let Verizon buy the spectrum at the bid higher than 4.6 billion. That way the spectrum will be open and Google won't have to pay out the 4.6 billion dollars. Eric Schmidt must be a gambler. Of course he is, he's a businessman.

That's right Verizon you may own the spectrum, but you have to keep it open! Unfortunately, At & T bought the closed version of the spectrum.

This is huge news. We'll see what happens in February 2009!
