Sex in my City

Sex and the City is one of my favorite shows in the world. I just finished Season 4 Episode 1 "The Agony and the Ex'-tacy". It's the one when she turns 35 and has a party at il Cantinori. It's about being older and being single. I can relate.

Does anyone believe in soulmates? Soulmates? I'm not sure they exist. That concept is about holding one person to this high standard. Soulmates implies that you're bound forever. That's too much pressure on two people. I think that we're meant to meet people on our journey. Some just stay longer than others.

Handful of Sesame Seeds Please

Are you stressed, anxious, insecure? These foods can help. Along with sesame seeds, I need some pineapple chunks.

No One Mourns the Wicked

Pace Steps Down

Get out and stay out. Your job is to lead the armed forces, not share you opinions or beliefs with the American People. Did he ever consider the men and woman that serve under how and how that would hurt their moral. Guess they don't count. Here's is a statement made by USA 's highest ranking soldier.

""I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Pace said."

He later sent this statement:

“Yesterday, during a wide ranging interview with the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board, I was asked if I think the current policy as codified in U.S. Code, generally referred to as “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell,” should still hold.
“People have a wide range of opinions on this sensitive subject. The important thing to remember is that we have a policy in effect, and the Department of Defense has a statutory responsibility to implement that policy.
“I made two points in support of the policy during the interview. One, “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” allows individuals to serve this nation; and two, it does not make a judgment about the morality of individual acts.
“In expressing my support for the current policy, I also offered some personal opinions about moral conduct.
“I should have focused more on my support of the policy and less on my personal moral views.”

Sounds like someone told him to shut-up.

125 Best Foods

I've had a rocky relationship with food my entire life. When I'm feeling blue I eat, when I'm happy I eat. Yes, I'm an emotional eater. Here's a short story.

I started gaining weight around 10 years old. I had a 34 waist in 5th grade (I know). It just kept growing until at my Senior Prom I had a 44 waist and was about 285lbs. I had a 50w pair of Levis. What changed was that I got out of my parent's home and went to school. There I connected to why I was eating (long story).

Asking myself, "Am I hungry?" before I put a piece of food in my mouth helped me lose 60 lbs in three months. From then I exercised and more weight came off. I'm not saying that this will help those who want or need to lose weight, but I know one thing for sure. Diet's don't work. Losing weight is about a lifestyle change.

I have more magazine subscriptions than I need, but one that I find invaluable and read cover to cover is Men's Health. Check out their article about the best foods for men.

Fired

Wow, I didn't think they would do it, but they did. What do the rest of you think about this? A friend of a friend (take it as you will) said there was so much tension on the set after the "incident" that no one was even speaking to Issac other than when the cameras were running. That's what I call acting.

Shame. He's had a reputation for being difficult to work with. Issac should know that all it takes is a PA or crew member with a blog to spread gossip like wildfire. If you need to have a confrontation, do it behind closed doors.

I'm sorry to hear an actor lost his job. I wish him the best.

Traveling to Canada, Bermuda or Mexico?

Good news! or is it?

This is another case of mismanagement by this administration. If you're going to create a requirement that leads to more paperwork and processing by your offices, shouldn't you be prepared for it. Did they think people wouldn't travel? Wasn't this created to protect us? The big question is, "will the security people scrutinize people without passports?" Maybe, but if the requirement was about safety "maybe" isn't good enough.

Tragic Circumstances

Would be another provocative topic for a play.

You wait for an organ and while it's in transit the plane crashes. Probably ending hope for you being able to survive for the next organ(s). That would be devastating for the families and friends.

It shows that sometimes you just have no control of certain outcomes.

So You Think You Can Dance

I was hooked on So You Think You Can Dance last summer and now I'm hooked again. I like it better than American Idol. Dancing is not about how much you can riff, but your technique. They work and train so hard, but have short career life spans.

I'm drawn to a good story and some of those dancers have amazing ones to tell. Have you wondered what it took to get in front of people and perform? It takes a lot. Practice, rehearsal and a little birdy that tells you "knock it out da box".

Good luck to all the dancers!!!

Sex and the City Alum

I'm getting my ticket early. That's all I have to say. I think the picture speaks for itself. Does anyone know from which epidsode of Sex and the City he's from?

I didn't watch Will and Grace, but he was on there too.

An Interview in the Country

Frank Rich interviewing Sondheim and I wish I could go, but it's a little too far. I met Sondheim once, in passing, and told him he was "amazing". Was that the best I could do? He replied with, "really"? I'm sure Mr. Rich will be a lot more creative.

Running Scared about Immigration

Why do these people care about immigration? It's because of the growing Spanish/Latin culture's voting base. It could cost people their House or Senate seat and no one wants to leave office. Let the political bullcrap begin.

The proposed bill has three sections

1. Illegal immigrants
- Could seek a "Z visa," which would give immediate work authorization if they arrived in the United States before January 1, 2007
- Head of household would have to return to their home country within eight years; would be guaranteed the right to return to the U.S.
- Applicants would have to pay a $5,000 staggered penalty

2. Guest workers
"Y visas" would be issued to 400,000 guest workers per year.
- Guest workers would enter the U.S. on two-year visas, return home for a year, then re-enter for additional two years. May enter three times (total six years) if not bringing family, but only one time if bringing family.
- Guest workers earn points toward merit-based green card.
- May bring families on 30-day visitor visas each year.

3. Enforcement
- Border fencing would be strengthened.
- The number of Border Patrol agents would be increased.
- Employers who hire undocumented workers would face fines.
- The guest worker program cannot begin until enforcement provisions are in place, which Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff estimates will take 18 months.

This is basically legalizing millions of unlawful immigrants and the bill up for vote in the Senate soon. It just failed a test vote so there's a good chance it might fail.

My summary: If I stole a "D square" coat and got away with it, do I have the right to exchange it for a different size if the one I stole didn't fit. No, I have the right to go to jail! The only way I'm entitled to get a different size is if I purchased the coat. America should not reward people who broke the law.

Tony Nominee Bill T. Jones

He's been doing modern dance for over 30 years and this is his first Tony nomination. I think he should win over Mary Poppins. Both pieces are extraordinary, but Spring Awakening's choreography looks like nothing else we've seen on Broadway in a long time. It's haunting, visceral, and unforgettable, just like the music.

People who live in glass houses....

Where there is power; there is sex and corruption.

Check out what Larry Flynt did in response to Jessica Cutler being fired for blogging about her affairs. Question, why would she put that out in the blogosphere? I bet the real answer would make a great play!

Disconnected Elephants Speak

I don't get how people who are wealthy decide if someone has health insurance or not. That's not fair. Healthcare should be provided to American citizens who need it. If you have insurance because of your job, great, but if your job doesn't offer it then, insurance should be available to you.

The Republicans seem so opposed to socialized medicine, but don't propose how people will pay for escalating health care costs. Also, this notion that Democrats are spenders is bull. The republicans are the ones that spend millions of dollars on a war based on a lie. Now we must find a way to transition out of this mess using millions of dollars that could have been used to fund a health care initiative or fortify our borders.

The elephants are out of touch and have no place in your legislative or executive branch. Explain how you can be pro life and pro war. Please, if you have an answer, comment.

Anderson Cooper looked great, but painfully silent about select issues. Did you notice that no one ever asked him to comment on what the Republicans said about gay and lesbians serving in the military?

Bush Nominates Homophobic Surgeon General

I got this from tweet.

Our president is a idiot. There I said it. President Bush represents gay americans weather he likes it or not. Why would you nominate someone that clearly discrimates against fellow Americans? Shame!

Nigeria sues Pfizer

Go Nigeria. You sometimes earn your negative reputation, but this time that's not the case. A big drug company thinks it's okay to test on human beings? So, you test on Africans and charge them exorbrant prices for drugs they need to survive. Seems sneaky and unfair to me. Again, rich and powerful people taking advantage of people without the resources to protect themselves.

Perfect Day

Today is one of those days that you realize that you waste your day working indoors for someone else. I had a rehearsal for this project at NYU. It was short and sweet 9:30am to 12:30pm. Now, I'm at Soy Luck Club having a great frozen soy drink and an omelette with a salad . It's sunny outside and I see people walking by and coming in. Of course you know I have to mention that there are five macs here!!

Don't forget tonight the Republicans show off and fight to break apart form George Bush's shadow. We'll see. I forgot to set the DVR, so I have to be home by 7pm. Hopefully they will repeat it.

It's so beautiful outside. I'm so grateful for right now... I'm in my favorite chair, in my favorite coffeeshop and I wouldn't have it any other way. Now, if only I lived around the corner!

Dems Debate

I stayed up until 1:17am watching the debate last night (DVR). This was my first opportunity to see the candidates in action.

Kudos for Health Insurance solutions being on everyone's lips. We can't forget who first offered a solution (Hilary), but was rejected. More and more bankruptcy filings are because of medical bills. We are country that can pay it's executives hundreds of millions of dollars a year. If the rich paid their income taxes, we'd have the money to insure every American citizen who needs it.

Here's my summary...
  1. Sen. Hillary Clinton was confident and seemed most at ease up there, but didn't really have anything to say. She's the front runner.
  2. Sen. Barack Obama was so camera ready. I saw him stumble a few time with the health care issues and Iraq, but he recovered. He needs to work on his transitions because at times he was a little choppy and people see that was weakness.
  3. Rep. Dennis Kucinich was looking for sound bites. I tuned him out, but he was passionate.
  4. Sen. Joseph Biden was the overall favorite for me. He was sensible. He spoke to the American people in a way we understood and didn't speak down to us. I thought he was the clearest and most thoughtful. He's in the political mess and he apologizes for that mess and is realistic about solutions to get out of it. I respect that.
  5. Sen. Christopher Dodd. I wished he spoke more. I like his first 100 days plan. I agree, we need to restore American rights and get rid of the Patriot Act.
  6. Gov. Bill Richardson. He sure knows a lot about how well New Mexico works. I respect what he's done there, but does he have the "mojo" to translate that to a national policy with regards to education, immigration and health care.
  7. Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel, who served in the Senate during the Vietnam War was a favorite because he didn't have that politician "speak". I felt he had an opinion and wasn't afraid to stand in his own truth. When the panelists were asked about English being the "official" language. He made the decision based on what how he felt. Polls have shown that most Americans want English as the "official" language. So, why hasn't it been done? Because it's a political issue.
  8. Sen. John Edwards needs to take some humble pie. He voted for the war four years ago.
