The Dish

Who knew that Oprah gossiped like this...

Miles Away

I can't stop listening to her album. It's great. Right now it's my favorite album of the year (sorry Janet).

Miles away (a track from Hard Candy) is a good way to put me right now. I've been working and working long days with only a short break between work to write and/or eat. If I want to blog I have to take my notebook to work and use it between work and this week I don't feel like carry it around if I don't have to.

So, tha's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'm just glad Madonna is helping me get through it.

Naughty...and not fit for the office

How did I stumble across this?? ;-) The guy interviewing Barrett is pretty good! Funny, relaxed and knows his stuff! I love how candid and free they are (outside of "there's a kid here comment).

Is this broadcast anywhere on television? I know there's a huge market out for it, but is it publicized?

Overexposure to Video Games

He's 7 years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7 Years old.

First off, he needs to stop eating! He's going to have juvenile diabetes!

This is Why I don't Watch

Forgettable performances done by children! Paula cracked me up though.

The Visitor

A friend recommended this movie and thought I'd have lots to comment on after seeing it. I think she's right. I'll catch it this weekend.

Sweet and Sticky

Madonna has done it again. She's gone back to her dance music roots. Hard Candy is part synthesizers and part beats. Madge has pulled some steamy summery beats out of the Neptunes! One of my favorite songs is the first track, "Candy Shop". Other standouts for me are:

Heartbeat ("See my booty get down")
Miles Away
Incredible
Beat Goes On
and the infectious "4 minutes"

Out of the three divas that came out this year. I have to give it to miss M. After all these years in the music business she's gone from dance to pop, to R&B, to electronica all while push fringe musical genres forward to mainstream attention.

I love her style and ability to be so trendy all the time!

Be afraid, very afraid

Every person of color needs to be wary of the police. This verdict was unfair and unjust and if those police officers had been real men and believed in their innocence they would have been judged by a jury of their peers. They did not because they would been found guilty on some count.

"The police response with respect to each defendant was not proved to be
criminal, i.e. beyond a reasonable doubt. Questions of carelessness and
incompetence must be left to other forums."

Okay I get that. What I don't understand is if carelessness and incompetence are factors in other forums why don't they count in this case?

Also, carelessness and incompetence are not standards to be applied here, unless the conduct rises to the level of criminal acts, as defined by the law relating to each count charged.

I don't care if it happened in one second. They were shooting based on assumptions with no merit. The police officers' carelessness and incompetence caused citizens to be injured one fatally.

I have this to say to the mother and former fiance to Sean Bell:

Sue New York City! Get as much as you can get. I think the judge was alluding to that when he said, "Questions of carelessness and incompetence must be left to other forums."

Maybe your children can have some opportunities, unfortunately a father isn't one of them.

McCain in 2003

Please don't vote for him...he's just another "good ole boy" for the rich to manipulate (like most Republicans). My thought is that if we're going to war we should do it efficiently with reference for the young people's lives that are being risked. Here's an excerpt from an interview done on Chris Matthew's "Hardball" back in 2003.

McCain was proud of Bush's leadership on the war in Iraq:

MATTHEWS: Let me you about, are you proud of the work, and the leadership of the commander-in-chief in this war?

MCCAIN: Yes, I am. I think the president has led with great clarity and I think he's done a great job leading the country, don't you all? [MSNBC Hardball, 4/23/03]

McCain talks about lessons he learned from Vietnam, lessons that apply pretty clearly to Iraq as well.

MCCAIN: ...I have been committed from my experience in Vietnam never to get into a conflict that the American people would not support over time.

I felt that the difference between the Vietnam conflict and this one we just went through is that in Vietnam, we didn't have clear cut objectives. We didn't have a strategy for victory. And obviously, we didn't have, over time, the support of the American people. I didn't feel that the Iraqi challenge in any way could be equated to that in Vietnam. [MSNBC Hardball, 4/23/03]
