Listening to Music

I feel like I’ve transitioned to listening exclusively to podcasts.  I have Jill Scott, Beyonce and The Book of Mormon and I don’t think I’ve listened to the albums more than once (albeit they just came out).  That happens when I have tons of podcasts loaded that I love to listen to.  Here’s a sample of what I listen to:

  • Android Central
  • Buzz Out Loud  (daily) – don’t listen to much after Tom Merit left.
  • Dialed In (weekly)
  • IGN – Game Scoop (weekly)
  • IGN – Podcast Beyond (weekly)
  • Loaded (daily)
  • Mac OS Ken (daily)
  • Oh My Pod (daily & weekly)
  • Savage Love
  • Tech New Today (video) (daily)
  • Tekzilla (video) (daily)
  • This Week in Tech (weekly)
  • Wall Street Journal (daily)
  • Weekend Confirmed (weekly)
  • The 404 (daily)

Is it me getting older or am I less interested in hunting for good music?  I was just observing that given the choice I will listen to my podcasts.  That could all change later.

Light of the Sun

Blessed is the first track...

I’m so pleased by what I hear and I'm not even finished with the album yet.  That’s a good sign.  Spoken word, thoughtful and passionate lyrics and soulful delivery already put it on par with Adele’s “21”.  I think it’s a notch above because of its concert feel.  "Hear my call" sounds like one of my own journal entries.

“God, please hear my call. I am afraid for me.
Love has burned me raw I need your healing
I need Your healing.”

I'm glad you're back Jill!

Can't have it all

Hmmm...

Jay Brannan

B my good friend turned me on to this artist. I really liked him in Shortbus and wasn't expecting an album that is dreamy, ethereal, but down to earth. It's splendid. My favs...Can't Have it all and Housewife. I'm sure I'll have more, but those two touch me.

"we haven't met....yet" - from "Housewife"

Lucky for me he's performing at Joe's Pub in NYC this Wednesday and I'm planning to be there (I just need to buy my ticket).

I'm gonna make a change for once in my life..

Man in the Mirror is still my favorite song ever. If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change...

AMEN!!!

Words can't express what Michael Jackson has meant to me. I remember when my cousin Anthony (God rest his soul) told me that I had to listen to this album called Off the Wall. He loved it and said I should too. I always listened to Anthony, so I listened and loved it. I was hooked. I watched the Jackson's cartoon Saturday morning, but my musical taste really hadn't formed. For people who grew up in the 80's you know that music brought people together. Popular music was everyone's music. I can still remember Rock with You. Still one of the hottest dance singles ever!

My dad brought home the Thriller on LP and I remember I wasn't allowed to touch it because I had scratched previous records and this one was special. We put it on and the first song I wanted to hear was "Billie Jean" because they were playing it on the radio. I was fascinating by the video and the lights that lit up as he moved around. There was "Beat it" and then Thriller. He changed everything for me. A story told through music and dance.

Growing up the only child I had lots of playtime and a whole house as my playground. I would go downstairs to the family room and dance around like Michael did. That was huge because I was a shy child outside of my house. Shy, introverted and overweight with glasses, but I was a dancing fool in the house. Home was a safe place and Michael Jackson was a way for me to get physical without judgement. To this day I can recall all the dance steps to Thriller. I'm glad there's no video of that!!

At the time where was so much happening...Return of the Jedi, E.T, and Michael Jackson. It was a great time to be a kid.

I was shocked and saddened, buy his passing and my prayers go out to his friends and family.

I LOVE YOU MICHAEL!!!

The Next Concert

Hmmmmm, so where do I go to get tickets lately.

Ticketmaster

Are there any other options out there...let me see...

Live Nation

Well, these two companies are merging under the guise of "the bad economy". I smell a big, fat smelly rat. The Democrats in Congress better step it up and reject this merger. What do you call one company that represents artists, sell merchandise, promotes and sell tickets for shows across the country? I call that a monopoly. If you're an artist and want to be at the best venues with access to the most people you're going to sign with the company that give you the most bang for your buck. If this goes through there will be one company...that's it.

Next Live Nation Entertainment will start producing music to sell on their own record label that plays on their own MP3 players!

Janet in DC

Janet was incredible. I'd have to say this was one of the best Janet experiences I've ever had.

I arrived in time to get something to eat, take a nap and head back to the city for the fanclub meet up at Ruby Tuesday's. We ate, drank and was greeted by one of the choreographers and one of Janet's closest's friends. It was surreal because I was able to get a picture with him.

After that I headed to The Source with my friends whom I would be sitting with. I had a ball and took a few pics from where I was.

Janet Week

This is the week I see Janet Jackson at the Verizon Center in DC. I am soooooooooo excited! I haven't seen her in full out concert since August of 2001! I can't wait. Seven years is a long time to wait for one of your favorite artists/entertainers!

Above is a pic I took at Battery Park when she performed during Good Morning America!

Love Will Never do w/o Janet

She's coming to New York City October 16th and I can't wait. If you haven't seen her in concert you're missing. I've seen all but Rhythm Nation because it sold out in fifteen minutes. My mom drive me to the record store early in the morning and it sold out.

She hasn't tour since the amazing All 4 You tour. That's not to say I haven't seen her in concert since. I saw her at Battery Park in NYC for Good Morning America (GMA), Rockefeller Center in NYC and recently at the Nokia Theatre for the GMA.

Enjoy this preview of her Rock Wit You Tour. If you don't like Jermaine Dupri fast forward to 2 minutes into the clip.

Peter Fox

I was chatting with some Germans and they told me to head to Berlin when I head to Europe. They said its the hottest place for music, culture and fashion. If this video is any indication I could have a fun time in Berlin (at least at the club).

That's the Way Tickets Go

Of course you know I love Janet Jackson and I love getting her music and watching the videos, but the highlight is seeing her in concert.

I've been to all except the first one (Rhythm Nation) because it sold out in fifteen minutes.

Rhythm Nation (1990)
Janet (1993)
The Velvet Rope (1998)
All for You (2001)

Rock wit You (2008)

So, I've been going to janet's membership site to check for the latest updates! She hasn't even announced dates for New York City! Wassup with that!!! I'm assuming that she'll come to New York City sometime in November! Get this tickets may be around $240! Goodness!

I love you Janet!!

Case of Misunderstanding?

What is up with this obsession with who's gay and who isn't in the Hip Hop industry. Maybe because most of their "hard" images are false, fabricated pieces of crap and they're worried about being exposed.
