HP Touchpad

Dear HP,

If I were one of your investors I would sell, sell, sell.

You guys have no idea what you're doing. You waste a billion dollars for Palm in order to position yourself in a young, but growing mobile market. A market that hasn't really defined itself yet. One CEO out and another in and you change everything. Now you're putting yourself back on track, but now the track leads to a dead end.

In case you didn't know HP, but personal computing has changed and is not going back to what it was before. People are mobile and they want their computers light and fun. People are finally realizing that in order to send email and surf the web you don't need the highest specs or latest tech available on the market.

In July HP had released a product that wasn't ready and wasn't priced to sell. (MISTAKE) People will buy a tablet, but what's holding a lot of people back is the price. $99 was too good to pass up. Even with the eventual death of WebOS people snapped up those Touchpads in August because what do people really want do..."check their email and surf the web".

Now the HP Touchpad has sold out and people are hungry for it. Yes it's cheap, but you've done something no one but a certain fruit company has done and that was cause a "buzz". Now, you want to kill something where you have complete control of the (hardware and software) kind of like another company. (MISTAKE)

It's great that you're keeping your PC division alive. You should. You said you're excited about Windows 8 for tablets. That's great, but where are they? Windows is too late to the game. WebOS was further along than Windows 8 and you spent a billion dollars for Palm. I just think that doesn't make any sense. HP you need to ask yourselves, "where do you want to be in ten years"? If mobile isn't figured in their, you may follow in RIM's shoes...

...dead in the water.

This is a huge problem and I don't seeing and change or movement. Investors. Sell. Sell. Sell.

It’s been so long since my last blog entry. I refuse to admit that blogs are dead. I will admit that while Google plus is about sharing, blogs seem more personal.

DC Universe Online came out in January and didn’t really know what I was doing. I created a character and just did the missions so that I could hit Level 30. I thought the game would be over, but I was sooooo wrong.

It was only the beginning. There is so much investment needed in this game to be successful and more specifically strong.

Take my strongest character:

Scorcher Girl

Power: Fire Tank

Weapon: Brawling

Movement: Flight

Mentor: Superman

When you start, your character has broken free attempting to escape Brainiac's ship. Once off, you end up in a safehouse (Police Station) and start accepting missions that help your character level up with Power points and skill points. Once you reach 30 you'd think that you've achieved the highest level but that's not true. The next steps can take a few months.

After I "leveled" up to 30 I decided to play some new content that was available to me and I kept dying against other players or challenge modes. It was terrible. Then I realized that I had to build my armor up in order to get stronger and start winning.

That was in May and now I'm finally in a decent place to be effective in a RAID or even hard alert.

For me what makes this game so amazing is the community and strategy aspect of it. I'm part of a League and they're incredible. DCUO isn't about button mashing. You really can't win that way, but you can win by combining you power with you fighting abilities. Combine that with strong armor and you can be pretty bad ass. Just like life there will always be someone stronger. I just wish I knew in January how to play because I would be invincible by now!!

Google Plus

I've been wanting for an alternative to Facebook for a long time.

Something that's fun but has a real social component to it. Would I send one status message to my friends, coworkers and family? Nope. I'd have one for all different kinds of people that I know.

Plus, I like new things that aren't what everyone else is using.

I'm in love with customizing it. You can see public updates from people near you. I think that's awesome. You can share updates with people you put in certain certain circles. So I could send a coworker a message that my friends wouldn't see. It's awesome. Compartmentalization! I love it.

Google you did good. You grabbed great elements from Twitter and Facebook and created an alternative to your existing social network. I'm not cancelling my account, but I know I will spend most of my time on Google Plus.

I feel like I’ve transitioned to listening exclusively to podcasts. I have Jill Scott, Beyonce and The Book of Mormon and I don’t think I’ve listened to the albums more than once (albeit they just came out). That happens when I have tons of podcasts loaded that I love to listen to. Here’s a sample of what I listen to:

Closer to the Touch

The date fast approaches for the HP (Palm) Touchpad and I’d like to drop my predictions.

There will be acclaim for the design, packaging and build quality.
WebOs will be smooth, but people will miss all the gestures.
Light to medium demand.
Lots of promotional pricing.
Low stock will lead to false demand.

Deep down I want the Touchpad to be a success. Competition is the only way products get better. I own a Pre and HP is offering $50 off for having a Pre. I think that’s a nice gesture, but for a $499 device it doesn’t make much difference. Apps make the difference. I’ll say it again... there needs to be a Nook app.

Most people I talk to have no need for a tablet. They just want one. Since I have a Nook, I’ve got my reading situation covered. It serves its function of carrying around books (no frayed edges or extra weight on my shoulders). My EVO is a great for browsing the web, checking my RSS feeds, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

A tablet doesn’t fit in my tech world yet, but I want one to play with too.

Blessed is the first track...

I’m so pleased by what I hear and I'm not even finished with the album yet. That’s a good sign. Spoken word, thoughtful and passionate lyrics and soulful delivery already put it on par with Adele’s “21”. I think it’s a notch above because of its concert feel. "Hear my call" sounds like one of my own journal entries.

I want a tablet today not because I need it but because I want it. I would have loved to have an Android tablet but the interface is unfinished. The fact that Samsung had to put 2.2 (Froyo) on a tablet was a big fail. I understand coming to market quickly is important, but when it's at the expense of the product, it hurts you. Consumers need just one reason NOT to get your product over the HOT product. When you're competing with a company that consistently makes slick, polished products, you've got to come out of the gate running! PERIOD.

Honeycomb should have shipped with all Android tablets automatically. You can't compete with the market leader if you don't have a unified interface. You have got to wow people. Give them a real interface, not a piecemeal one. If "regular" people have to "figure it out"...they aren't going to. They'll just go for the "easy" one that everyone has.

**I know criticized HP for not releasing the HP sooner, but it seems like they're making sure their product interface, accessories are ready to go. Good for them.

I applaud the Android team for realizing this with Ice Cream Sandwich. Being a consumer, I'd wait for this update before I'd buy an Android tablet.

Tanking and Healing Weekend

Another great weekend with great people. This weekend turned out to be fuller than I expected. I meant to do laundry, but sleep and recharging won in the end.

Who would have thought a birthday gift could keep on giving? Thank you to my best friend for one of best games I’ve ever played. It is such a fun past time that I’m watching less and less TV and playing more and more DC Universe Online. My PS3 is doing what I wanted it to do. Keep me from spending tons of money on the weekend.

I’m part of a league now and I’m ranking and building up their armor up for fighting with other players and with game challenges. The more I play the better I become with using my powers. I’m a strategist and like it when the “right” players in the right roles are playing.

• Tank
• Healer
• Controller
• DPS

Having good people in those roles makes your group unstoppable. A powerful Tank takes all the “heat/attention” in the game. So, the controller can stun enemies, give power to the group. The DPS can kill people and the healer can keep the group alive.

The first person you want to attack is the healer. The DPS and Tank can concentrate their attacks on him and the group while the Controller stuns enemies trying to get to their own healer. This is where mics come in. There is no way you can strategize without having a mic. If someone doesn’t have one, I wonder how do they play the game well? I think it’s essential. There was one moment where no one knew who the healer was to kill and someone found out said the same and we focused our attack on him. I don’t know if it sounds fun, but with the epic music playing in the background and the intense combat, I love it.

So, this week is all about building armor for challenges. We’ll see how far I get.

On top of that, I also went to a party Saturday night, brunch Sunday and Tony watching with a friend Sunday night. Umm, Ummm...good.

I’m not for the government controlling our lives, but when you leave things up to “for profit” businesses you can’t expect that they’ll have the public’s best interest at heart when we depend more and more on the internet for our daily needs and entertainment.

As the internet becomes more and more of a utility it needs to be treated as such. Lots of things that make our lives easier are online i.e. filing taxes, managing bank funds..... . When was the last time you used the phone book? You can even submit rebates online, which saves time and paper.

With video so prevalent on our mobile and home networks, the USA has a decision to make with regards to the:

Who
What
Where
How
When

You have choices to see a movie after the theatrical release: DVD, Blu-Ray, iTunes, Amazon, Netflix, Blockbuster, The Playstation Network, Xbox Live and Cable TV. I may have left out a few options, but you get the idea.

DVD’s and Blu-Rays you purchase can be viewed on your TV. You pay a price for the physical media and use your “player” to watch at home unless you have one of those portable DVD players or laptops. Netflix can also send you DVD’s in the mail.

Take services like iTunes, Netflix streaming and Amazon’s On Demand services. You need an internet connection to be able to download content. With that said you can put that media on a wide variety of devices: mobile phones, tablets and computers. That makes it easier to take that content with you.

I saved the best content provider for last, Cable TV. Cable TV has lots and lots of content on those 200+ channels. Things like True Blood, Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Project Runway and movies. Channels like OWN, TV-One, Sci-Fi, etc. have lots of shows that I’d love to see. HBO, Showtime has lots of movies I missed in the theatre. The problem is I’m only home during the week for about two hours a night. During that time I’m watching my DVR, which is full of network programming or I’m on my PS3.

I’m not trying to give a history lesson, but the internet changed everything. It changed the WHEN and WHERE you watched. No more running home to see a show or movie at a certain time. You have the option to see it again when you want and where.

Cable networks have their content on iTunes and it’s available to download anytime, watch anytime and anywhere. The caveat is that you need the internet to download

Which leads to the problem...who provides you with your internet connection?

I have it through my cable company. They provide the means, but they also have content to sell me. Should they be to essentially block when I can put onto my devices. I don’t think so.

Let’s keep competition alive. The consumers need choices for all the content that’s moving online. With more and more brick and mortar stores closing, Americans need to be protected.

The Oscars are like Opera. It’s high brow entertainment. Good, but disconnected and out of touch with public opinion. You don’t see movies like ‘The Hangover’ nominated for Best Picture. Not because they’re awful, but because they aren’t “Oscar” movies. Most Best Picture winners are about triumph over obstacles and characters that are tested and rise above. Most movies that do well in this country don’t have much dialogue and have more action than story.

On the other hand, the Oscars have never been about “the best performance as who is more the “Hollywood player”. Who has campaigned and oiled the machine to get noticed by Academy voters and press. For the industry it seems like the Academy voters view their vote as a vote into a club than a vote for “the best”. I will say that pertains to the acting categories and best picture nominees.

Academy, America doesn’t get it. You put ten films up for Best Picture when clearly there are only five front runners (you might as well extend it to 20 next year to include Breaking Dawn). Your ratings are slipping. I see the same thing happening to you as the Grammys, a low brow popularity contest with anyone with high sales winning. I guess Hangover 2 will be nominated next year.

Leave the hosts to one and have someone that can handle a room! Standouts are:

Steve Martin
Alec Baldwin
Billy Crystal

I would even suggest Oprah Winfrey to host and put her own spin on the telecast.

Need or Want?

There’s a tablet revolution out there. From HP, Motorola to Dell, everyone has a tablet coming out. What need are they filling? This market didn’t even exist a year ago. Everyday people barely use the full potential of their smartphones and computers outside of maxing out their hard drives.

Computers and smartphones fill a need. Take me for example, I’m not home much during the day and if I want to have a place for my email, web surfing and productivity applications I can’t do better than a smartphone, because it fits in my bag or pocket and I can take it anywhere. I rarely take my notebook with me anymore. It is just too heavy.

Email, texting, RSS reader, camera, phone, task manager, etc. A device that can send me reminders on the go and can be my “hub of information” is what I need. I have an HTC (Android) device and I like the operating system and HTC’s hardware. I’m very pleased.

In comes the tablet device with a large screen that can be a Personal Information Manager (PIM). Why would I need that? How does that fit with my other electronics? I have a Nook, so I can read and my phone can take care of everything else. Would it be fun to have a tablet for my video, etc. Yes, but not enough to spend the $500 and above price. Even HP (Palm) whom I love, is going to have to work to get my money. I want it, but I surely don’t need it. Not when I spend most of my time on my music player listening to podcasts and then reading on my Nook.

I’m just trying to resist the desire to have the “new toy”. I need a more compelling reason to get it besides, “It looks and feels cool”.

Do I need another device?

No, but I want one.

Killzone 3, the new installment of the series, was released today 2.22.11 and I can’t wait to play it.

From graphics, multiplayer and immersion, no other game has this beat and I haven’t even played it.

My excitement is being tempered because of my schedule for the next few days. I work long days which doesn’t leave much time for sleep. For example, tonight I will pick up my collector’s edition copy and sharp shooter around 10:15pm and...

Home – 11pm

Gaming – 11:30 to 1am (that’s if I turn the game off)

Bed at 1:30am

Then I repeat Wednesday, Thursday. Whew

Come Friday I should be ready to pounce on the multiplayer for my first 24 hours of play. That’s important because all the weapons and abilities will be unlocked for that amount of time. Then I get reset back to normal settings (it’s a feature of the Collector’s Edition)

I want to level up and find a clan of adults to play with...fun fun fun!!

What a Lunch!!

Oh boy!

I went to lunch today and had two drinks (frozen margaritas) and because I go there often the bartender gave me and my lunch partner two shots. Yummy. Problem is:

I had two drinks already.
I’m at work.
I’m a lightweight when it comes to drinking
My head is spinning (a little)
I wish I was in a bar in the east village.

With my head spinning, clearly it was too much for lunch. I need to pull back. This afternoon will be hard to get through without busting out laughing.

I brushed my teeth and have an altoid in my mouth. Hopefully, no one will smell my breath.

I need this while I’m here at this job. If you only knew what goes on and who sleeps with who!

Tablet Time

I have put some thought to the tablet war going on. Outside of the front runner (you know what that is). I'm seriously considering going back to Palm for my tablet needs. First question is what do I need a table for.

- Reading Book/Magazines/Blogs
- Calendar
- Contacts
- Videos
- Apps

I'm not sure what else I'd use it for that I couldn't do with my HTC EVO 4G. Outside of just loving technology and wanting everything I need to get a real world reason to want a tablet.

With all the video games I have to play that I have to play at home on my PS3 there's no way I have time to play on a tablet. Don't forget I have a PSP too that I don't even turn on, but love to use when I'm traveling. I think I have too many gadgets as it is. Maybe it is time cool it on the gadgets. I'm sure Suze Orman would say, "I'm denied".

February 9th I'll be checking for Palm's announcement.

Funny how with this whole wiki leaks debacle that Republicans, like Allen West (FL), wants to censor news outlets that circulated the wikileaks document. It’s more absurd than funny, but it shows how two sided and fake they are. On one side they want less government, but when it benefits them they want the government to shut down whatever doesn’t fit their agenda.

• Cutting taxes for the wealthy.
• Having to borrow to pay for those cuts.
• Healthcare reform that benefits the greedy insurance and pharmaceutical companies.
• Leaving Healthcare as it is.

And that’s to start. For Christmas, I really want a Republican, who makes less than $50,000, explain how the list above benefits them. The Democrats, who have a backbone of a rat, have a great list of ideas, but no way of executing them. It’s pretty pathetic, but back to my question...how does cutting taxes help a nation in debt?

4G Coming in November

Is coming in November! So exciting. Finally my phone will be able to run the way it was supposed to. I am worried about battery life, but the speeds are pretty remarkable on 4G.

HTC EVO 4G - Two Month Mark

I do love my phone. After having the EVO for a few months, I can’t see myself going back to a 3.1 size screen (Palm Pre). It’s 4.3 or larger. Looking at the videos and even typing are perfect. Finally for my large meaty paws, I have a phone that fits well.

The camera is the best I’ve ever had on a phone. Once you to adjust the settings, which you have to, the camera is outstanding. The phone is easy to use and I love that when you pull up a contact you can see all the call history, text message history, Facebook, Flickr and even their Facebook status updates.

The home screens are a major sell for me. I like being able to put widgets any screen. Although, since I found the right set up for me I doubt I’ll change it anytime soon besides the wallpaper. Speaking of wallpaper, it moves according to which home screen you are on. So a picture will move to the left or right and show you more of the image you selected to be the background image.

The Android Market is okay. I’m not that into games on my phone, but currently I’m loving the retro camera apps that play with exposure and color balance on the phone. Really adds a great look to photos.

You may laugh at the kickstand, but when I’m at lunch and looking at YouTube it comes in so handy. I’m all about practicality, so it’s a great addition for me.

The Front facing camera is great, but I haven’t used it too much. It’s almost like voice calls, I don’t call that much and when I do most people with front facing cameras aren’t available to talk at that time.

I take that back. There are some apps that make Android special.

Well, still loving my HTC EVO 4G. I have to say Android takes some getting used to, but in the long run I really enjoy the software. I downloaded this app that manipulates the lens to create these great pictures. I took the picture on to the right while at lunch.

I can't believe that September is here already. The year is coming to a close and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm looking forward to getting back to the gym again. I need to lose some weight.

As it gets cooler, I want to start gaming again. I don't know what it is about summer, but I'm not feeling it as much as I do in the Winter. In February, Killzone 3 comes out and I have to be ready. So exciting.

Work is depressing. I hate it all and need to make a change. I consider calling out sick every morning. Oh well, maybe I need some time off.

I'm still reading The Passage (page 436). Only 400 pages to go. Yeah!!

I had a thought...what if I moved to Chicago or Portland, Oregon??

My New Superphone

I'm using the Blogger app right now and I have to say I love the phone except for one huge thing. The Gmail app. its a memory hog and at one point my phone became unusable. Google needs to work on that before I give it an A.

Other than that this phone is a beast. It's so much faster than my beloved Pre.

Okay I need to pay attention to the sidewalk before I get hit. its hard to type and walk at the same time.

I'm obsessed. It always happens in August, but I want an HTC EVO 4G. I thought I would wait until next year to get a new phone, but why. I'm already eligible for an yearly upgrade since I'm Sprint Premiere customer. So, why not get a new phone. I'm not leaving Sprint for another carrier.

Next Book - The Big One

I'm reading the 800 plus page "The Passage". It is another book with vampires in it. I was looking for a good summer book after reading "Breaking Dawn". Steven King gave it a great review in Entertainment Weekly so I thought I'd give this $9.99 book a try. That's another reason ereaders are convenient . You can buy a book for $9.99 instead of the thick hardcover that costs $27.00. So you cut the money and weight.

As of now, there are three main characters:

Amy (little girl abandoned by mother)

Wolgast (FBI)

Anthony Carter - death row inmate

110 pages in I can tell this is going to be one of those books with many characters weaving in and out of each other. These vampires are more monster than Edward Cullen and definitely don't sparkle.

I will remind you that the book is 800 pages long (more or less). I was intimated by that because it takes me a while to finish a book with working as much as I do, but I can tell this book is weaving a great story and that something is going to happen (that was before I saw the subtitle in the picture to the right. The book is so good, I'm already picturing actors in certain roles.

I'm hoping to be done by September!

Technology can be like your favorite undiscovered, underground artist that played in cheap venues with well vodka and tight unisex bathrooms 10 years ago. Today that same artist is one of the hottest around living in a loft Williamsburg and shopping at Farmers market in Union Square.

Someone is always going to think they've earned being a fan more than someone else. Those arguments never go anywhere. It's all about options.

I root for the underdog and the people that are working hard to beat the establishment. Call me a fanboy and/or elitist and you're probably right. I made a conscious decision to "switch". I went against the grain to whole new world. I was happy when not many people "knew" about the "other side" and took pleasure in seeing them struggle with what technology they thought was best. Now, as things are shifting and my choice years ago is now fashionable, these noobs have all these complaints and issues. I have this to say...

"If you don't like it, switch back and never look back". That goes for phones, computers, tablets, machine guns or whatever. You have a choice in is this great retail landscape. If you don't like it, RETURN IT (within 30 days, 14 in some cases).

Every year I wonder if I'll want to watch, but I'm already hooked.The boys, the attitudes all mixed together with a big side of drama! It's awesome. How will this season stack up.

I want to give my first impressions of the contestants before it gets too far in the the season.

My Summer Memories

Summers were fun for me.

My earliest summer memories were spent with my Grandmother at her apartment in Washington, DC. She was funny, energetic and very charismatic. I vividly remember this candy wheel with these delicious green soft chew-able candles with sugar crystals on them. I used to think she kept them for me, but I'm sure they were for everybody. While I was there, 9am to 5pm, Cousins, Aunts and Uncles would stop by and chat. I met a lot of family through her. She was like my family's epicenter. Don't disturb us between 12:30pm and 4pm because we watched Soap Operas. Young and the Restless, All my Children, Capital, One Life to Live and Guiding Light. It was intense. We watched in silence and commenting during the commercials.

My Grandfather would come home after he got off work and give me the strongest handshake I've ever had. He had the biggest heart of anyone I knew. He worked at the same church he and my Grandmother went to on Sundays. He was loud and his stomach (think Santa Claus) was so big he couldn't close his legs. I loved him very much (God rest his soul). He gave me my first taste of alcohol from his own homemade moonshine! It was strong, but the peach flavor was my favorite. My Grandfather could have given me anything and I would have loved it. Funny how to this day I HATE beer, but love clear liquid (vodka, rum) mixed with fruit juice.

I live in an urban jungle now (New York City) and I have my grandmother to thank for taking me on my first subway ride when I was 8 or 9 years old. It was magical. If you've ever seen Washington DC's Metro system, imagine it in the eyes of an 8 year old who loved Star Wars.

Then I turned 11 y/o and my parents sent me away to camp where I learned how to horseback ride, kayak, canoe, shoot a bow and arrow and a rifle. That lasted until I was 15. The year after that, I got a summer job at a movie theatre. After I started my job, I saw her less and less. I let her down because I never gave her a ride in my car when I got my license.

I found out this weekend that her time on this earth is coming to an end. We don't know when, but it will be soon.

I am grateful for my summer memories!

I love it. It's gotten me excited about reading again. I'm actually thinking of starting a book club for owners of eReaders.

I've only paid for one book, but have "sideloaded" so much content on it.

Yes, I said library books. I will never (well not ever) have to exclusively go to the library to check out books. Funny thing is you have to return the electronic books...lol.

I'm reading the self help book "Blink" and "Beginning CSS" (library books). Since Shakespeare book are all available free, I put Winter's Tale and Anthony Cleopatra on it too. I have to say as a eReader it's phenomenal. I can't put True Blood, Season 1 on it, but I'll have that soon enough. Because it's so small, I take it everywhere with me. I find myself leaving my PSP at home. Guess I'll pick it up again at some point.

I finally have an ereader and it isn't made by the company you might have thought. I am the proud owner of a Barnes & Noble Nook. This is what happened.

I got into work on Monday and checked Google Reader. Engadget had a story about a "new" Nook device. I read the story and saw the image of the WiFi only reader and that B&N confirmed the price drop from $259 to $199 for the original 3G one.

I said, "Well this is compelling".

My main reason for getting a tablet "like" device would be for books. Having access to multiple books with the ability to download free ones was just too nice to pass up.

Certain circumstance prevented me from getting the "tablet" device at a discounted rate, so I threw my hands up and decided to wait for the 2nd generation of that device and get the Nook. I'll pass the Nook to my mom. A while ago I asked her about the Kindle and she said it was too expensive ($399) but today I got a call from her asking how a Kindle downloads a book.

I have to say it's a great device. All the software updates have paid off and it's very responsive. The interface take some getting used to, but it isn't too bad. The fact that I can go online and send samples to it and go into Barnes and Noble and get discounts and free books is cool. I don't know when I'll pick up the PSP on the train again. Last night I went to Central Park to read (at least before it rained).

I'm am disappointed and saddened that a General would have the nerve to disrespect the President of the United States in Rolling Stone magazine. General Stanley McChrystal should be ashamed of himself. I'm going to get the issue myself, but even if the statements were taken out of context, you just don't say things like that about the boss, when you're a solider and your job is to take orders.

My definition of racism is about power one race feels over another. I believe this General thought his comments would hold weight and hurt the popular President. Looks like he was wrong and hopefully his God complex is diminished a bit. His special assistant has resigned and he submitted his own resignation. Good. If he had a problem with the President's orders, he should have resigned a long time ago. This kind of confusion and infighting does not help the troops or the American people.

Time to move on. President Obama can't tolerate actions like this. He can find another General to head the effort in Afghanistan.

The phone of the year was officially released Friday, June 4th. I want want want it, BUT I'm hesitant to purchase a 4G phone when New York City isn't equipped with 4G service yet. It's like buying an apartment, but not able to see all the rooms inside. I want the full experience.

I think it's the best phone out there because it represents the future. I currently have a Road Runner cable broadband subscription ($50) a cell phone bill of $70. If I can cut that down to $100 and have Internet service wherever I want would be golden. That's the future. One bill that meets all my Internet needs wherever I am.

Name another phone that can do that at such a low price

6 years of storytelling. I almost cut it off, but I have to say I’m so glad I stayed for the entire run. I was up late watching finale and got up early. (an unheard of 6:10am) so I’m barely awake.

What do I say? I say television like this doesn’t come very often. A show that asks questions and expects the audience to make its own conclusions. A show that introduces 3 dimensional characters that we can root for and despise at the same time. A show that I’ll never forget.

Tardy Thursday

One of the things I look forward to in the morning is a train that is on time. I leave a little earlier so I can pick up breakfast, but when the train is super late so am I. For the last two days the train has been about ten minutes late, therefore extremely crowded. During rush hour there's a train every five minutes. So a car that is ten minutes late has twice the amount of people trying to fit in a car that is packed with more people pushing to get on. This makes everyone's commute...a struggle.

At least I don't have to drive to work.

My chosen strategy when the train is like this is to stand at the end of the train car. That way I don't have to worry about people getting on and off. The hardest part is that I have to be "aggressive" when I get off the train. I'm sure some people get stepped on in that process. My suggestion to them, if you're near the doorway, get off the train while people are exiting.

On another note, I've been stressed out with all my podcast listening. I have so many and with discovering more I'm wondering how can I keep up? There's Buzz out loud, The 404, Dialed In, Digital City, WSJ tech beat, Tavis Smiley, IGN, Savage Love. Last but not least Oh My Pod.

I feel like just clearing my computer all the old ones and start new. If I missed it, so be it. I just did that when I picked up my new HDDVR.

Tonight I will watch my first Blu-ray disk...Avatar.

I was grumpy yesterday morning and one thing I hate more are people being loud on the train on Monday morning. I have about forty minutes door to door commute and I treasure that time to just be. The following post I wrote on my iPod Touch. It's kind of like stream of consciousness.

Why do I always sit next to couples on the subway? Why do they talk about bullshit? Drink your fucking coffee and shut up. My morning train ride is about me reading and quiet. I mean everyone else on the train is quiet and these two idiots are yapping!

I see a Nook. I wonder if she knows the iPad is out.

My train conductor tries so hard in the morning. He talks about sports, holidays and even sings. I kid you not. Sometimes I'm so grumpy in the morning that I don't want to laugh but do anyway.

Also to the men dating women....why do some of you act like such scared little boys around your girlfriends/wives. Man up.

I root for the underdog. When Transformers were hot I loved Gobots. Today, when everyone has one certain phone I have a Palm Pre.

I just heard news that Palm is putting itself up for grabs. What a shame? I guess at this point, sell their patents to HTC and get a boatload of cash. HTC hopefully will gain some ammunition to fight with that certain entertainment company. It's actually puts me on the path to get the HTC Evo 4G phone around the holidays. We'll see.

The only time products get better is when there's true competition.

Case for 3G

WiFi will work fine for most situations (if you have access to it), but what about those moments when 3G would "save the day". I'm debating on getting the 3G version of a device.

Here's the deal:

Do I need to be able to use the device everywhere?
What if I'm in ares have WiFi?
Will there be applications that will take advantage of those the GPS chip?
What about my phone that has a GPS chip?
Is there too much overlap?

Since my job has WiFi and I'm connected to a computer all day, I don't need to have 3G in the office (Plus, I need to be working). During lunch I won't be surfing that much, I'll be eating. With that, I may be talking myself out of the 3G version during the week. On the weekends I play games on my PS3 and surf the net in my apartment with my broadband connection. If I do go somewhere, I have my Palm Pre to get my email and web stuff. I don't see myself taking something almost 10 inches long out as I walk in NYC to get my email.

Heavy Rain

OMG. I recently started playing the PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain game and it's a game changer "pun intended".

What other game is story based, forces you to make choices that change the path the characters take. I've never played a game with this high level of submersion. Fighting in this game is intense, it's all about timing and hitting the right button(s) at the same time. One character has asthma, so you must know where his inhaler is at all times or you could die.

And die you can. There are four characters: Ethan, Madison, Jayden and Shelby. I'm at the beginning of the game, but even where I am (3 hours in) I'm invested. There was one moment where I almost killed a character. I survived but it was so exhilarating. I like the intensity of the First Person Shooters but games like this just blow me away.

Touch My Media

I have to say i'm looking forward to the "touch" fun of the device.

Touching a screen to perform a task is very compelling . It's like you are part of something instead of just a spectator. As devices come out I ask myself if I need them or not. This time it is more of a want than I need because I really like tech and gadgets. With my many portable devices: iPod, Palm Pre, PSP, and laptop I take my laptop fewer and fewer places because most things like the the Pre or iPod can perform most functions. My main concern is battery life. I have dedicated devices so that I'm not caught without music or entertainment. If that happens, what do I do?

I won't have this revolutionary device this weekend, but i will when the time is right.
